OUTDOOR SCHOOL

OUTSIDE IN

Outside In is a progressive program that follows an entire grade at Sanders-Clyde Elementary School on the Charleston peninsula from Kindergarten through fifth grade. This program is designed to work with the same students for six years to strengthen STEM test scores, develop environmental literacy, and nurture future environmental stewards.

On a quarterly schedule each year, Coastal Expeditions educators meet with Outside In students and focus on conservation projects that contribute to the local community and ecosystem. Each year, topics progress to align with South Carolina Science State Standards. After three on-campus visits, students join Coastal Expeditions on field trips to places like Morris Island and Bulls Island.

Concurrently, the Education Team at Coastal Expeditions is compiling metrics from this pioneer program. Following each year, we evaluate the impacts of repeated exposure to environmental curriculum and experiential field trips.
