Thank You for Supporting the Sea Turtle Team in Cape Romain!
April 5, 2025
We’re feeling the love—and so are the loggerheads!
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, the Amazon wish list for the Cape Romain Sea Turtle Team has been completely cleared. Every permanent marker, roll of tape, and pen you sent will be put to work this nesting season as our team sets out to monitor and protect one of the most important loggerhead nesting sites on the Atlantic coast. It was a small list, but it was necessary for the to prepare for the upcoming loggerhead nesting season.
We’ve already seen mature sea turtles in Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge on our way to Bulls Island, so it won’t be long!

Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge hosts nearly half of South Carolina’s loggerhead nests. Every year, sea turtles lay between 2,000 and 3,000 nests on the refuge’s remote barrier islands. The Sea Turtle Team works hands-on, enduring hot conditions and early mornings to protect them. Their days start before sunrise and continue into the heat of the afternoon.
Each morning during nesting season, the team boards boats before dawn to reach the beaches. They locate and document new nests, protect them with predator screens, and monitor hatch success throughout the summer. The supplies you help provide—simple items like markers, tape, and clipboards—are crucial for recording and organizing this critical conservation work.
Want to keep the good vibes going?
Adopt a loggerhead nest in Cape Romain NWR! Each nest holds about 120 eggs. Your $35 donation directly supports their protection from the moment the eggs are laid until the last hatchling reaches the sea. As a thank-you, you’ll receive an official adoption certificate and updates throughout the season.
From all of us at the Coastal Expeditions Foundation—and especially from the Sea Turtle Team—thank you for showing up for the turtles. Your support truly makes a difference.
See you on the beach!
