Summer Camp

For kids ages 8-11 , this week-long day camp teaches outdoor skills to establish lifelong connections with the creeks and marshes of the Lowcountry.

Our Young Naturalist Camp is designed to get kids outside to learn outdoor skills like sea kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, water safety and ecology! Our camps give kids a chance to explore the saltmarsh and form a lasting connection with the creeks and marshes of Beaufort and the Sea Islands.

Camp meets at our 2-acre campus on St. Helena Island along Wards Creek. Amenities include private bathrooms, camp classroom, freshwater pond and new dock.

Daily activities change each week based on the tides and weather and include:

-Swimming
-Team building games!

Why We Love It

We’ve been leading the Young Naturalist Camp since 1994, when our owner Chris Crolley led the first Coastal Expeditions camp in Mount Pleasant, SC. This camp teaches outdoor skills that are useful throughout their lives, forging a connection with the coastal landscape and the unique ecology.  It’s a fun week of making friends and adventure!

What To Pack & Wear

Kids should be dressed for the weather, including a hat to protect from the sun. Even if it is warm, a windbreaker is recommended for the boat ride. Wear shoes that can get wet and will stay on their feet (Tevas/Chacos/sneakers).

Bring water, snack, towel and sunscreen in a small bag or backpack.

Guide Safety & Training

All Coastal Expeditions guides hold certifications in first aid, CPR and lifeguarding. As year-round leaders of day camps and school field trips, our staff is well-trained to keep safety at the forefront.  Children wear PFDs while they are on each daily expedition and any time they are near water.

Our captains hold 100-ton master captain licenses from the USCG.  Coastal Expeditions boats are custom-built vessels that receive yearly inspections from the U.S. Coast Guard.

Cancellation & Weather Policy

There is a 30-day cancellation policy for summer camps at Coastal Expeditions.

This is a rain-or-shine program, but certain weather conditions (i.e. hurricanes or tropical storms) may cause us to cancel.
