SANTEE DELTA TO HAMPTON PLANTATION

Overview

Boat Ecotour + Hampton Plantation Walk
Fundraiser for the Coastal Expeditions Foundation

Step into one of the most beautiful and storied landscapes in the Lowcountry on this rare, conservation-minded expedition led by Capt. Chris Crolley.

Timed to the rhythms of tide and season, this special trip journeys deep into blackwater tributaries lined with ancient cypress and tupelo. In spring, these quiet waterways come alive — wildflowers bloom along the banks, migratory birds return to nest, and the sky fills with the unmistakable silhouette of swallow-tailed kites. These elegant neotropical migrants travel thousands of miles each year to pair bond and raise young in the same swamps where they were born — a powerful reminder of the resilience and fragility of the natural world.

Traveling by boat through winding creeks so picturesque our guides call them “Eden,” guests will experience the profound stillness of the cypress-tupelo ecosystem — one of the most biologically rich and visually striking environments in the Southeast.

The journey also weaves together layers of human history. We’ll step onto the grounds of historic Hampton Plantation, where camellias planted centuries ago still bloom near the colonial-era house. Here, stories of indigo cultivation, rice culture, and the enduring legacy of the Gullah Geechee people reveal how deeply intertwined nature and human history are in the Lowcountry. Walking these tidal landscapes offers a rare opportunity to reflect on both the beauty and the complexity of this place.

By joining this expedition, you directly support the work of the Coastal Expeditions Foundation — helping protect critical habitats, fund conservation programs, and connect future generations to the wild places that shape our coastal heritage.

Come experience a landscape that has inspired guides, conservationists, and explorers for generations.
