Things To Know
- All gear (kayak or SUP, paddle, PFD, map) is included
- No experience needed! We’ll teach you what you need to know for a fun adventure!
- Our guides help you on and off the water
- Wear shoes that stay on your feet (no flip flops), quick-drying clothing and a hat
- You’ll want to have a water bottle and sunscreen (available for purchase, if needed)
- Our waterside outposts all have private docks, parking lots and bathroom/changing areas
Walk-Ups vs. Reservations
- Walk-ups are welcome at our Shem Creek and Kiawah River outposts year round (and in the summer months at St. Helena Island)
- If you have a reservation, we will have your gear ready for you when you arrive.
- Walk-ups may have to wait 20 minutes before we can get you on the water
- Call or text before you come to give us a head’s up and we’ll start setting up your gear!

Never paddled before? We’re ready to teach you all you need know before you get on the water – so you can feel confident and have an adventure that’s as fun and fascinating as possible. Experienced adventurer? We’ll set you up with the best gear, share our favorite spots, and be ready to hear the stories upon your return.
Not sure if you want to do a tour or rental?

Do I need experience to rent kayaks and paddleboards?
No– This activity is fun for everyone that wants to get out on the water!
Our gear is very stable and designed to be easy to use for all skill levels. Before you get on the water, we’ll fit you to your PFD (personal flotation device), give you a few pointers and help you onto the water. When you get back, we’ll be there to help you back on the dock.
We want you to have fun, see a lot of wildlife, and think of this experience as the highlight of your day.
Are there weight or age limitations to rent kayaks and paddleboards?
- Our kayaks can support weight up to around 300 pounds per person.
- Kayaking and paddleboarding rentals are fun for most ages because you can set your own pace and duration. Kids 12 & under need to be in the front of a tandem kayak with an adult, so please plan accordingly.

What is the cancellation and weather policy?
If you want to plan ahead for your vacation or outing, you can rent from us with confidence that if the weather is bad we will try to reschedule or give you a full refund.
Please note: We don’t cancel for a forecast of rain unless it is obvious that a large front is coming through. Coastal weather often shows a forecasted chance of rain (especially in the summer!), but unless we see it on the radar, plan to come in. We’ve been doing this for over 30 years, and we are watching the weather for you!
If you need to cancel, please do so 24 hours in advance to receive a refund. This gives us time to make adjustments in inventory and staff.
