SHEM CREEK AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

After School Shem Creek Explorers • Ages 5-9

Overview

Offered weekdays, 2:30-5:30 p.m.

Drop off your children at Coastal Expeditions’ Outdoor School for a weekly afternoon of fun and outdoor skills development on Shem Creek!

Weekly activities include: fossil hunting, shelter building, crabbing, scavenger hunts, marsh walks and nature-based craft projects.

Monday through Thursday are boat days, where we explore nearby barrier islands and fossil hunt. Fridays are at the Outdoor School campus with scavenger hunts, nature-based projects and dip netting on the dock.

This program is rain or shine! If conditions aren’t right to be outdoors, we have an indoor classroom for projects and games.

Why We Love It

One things kids don’t get enough is free play in nature.  We know that it build confidence, increases happiness and allows kids to connect with each other.  Our after school program keeps kids connected with the outdoors (and disconnected from their screens).

FAQ’s

What To Pack & Wear

Kids should be dressed for the weather, including a hat to protect them from the sun.  Even if it is warm, a windbreaker is recommended for the boat ride.  Wear shoes that can get wet and will stay on their feet (Tevas/Chacos/sneakers are better than flip flops)

Bring water bottle, snack, towel and sunscreen in a small bag or backpack.

Guide Safety & Training

All Coastal Expeditions guides hold certifications in first aid, CPR and lifeguarding. As year-round leaders of day camps and school field trips, our staff is well-trained to keep safety at the forefront.  Children wear PFDs while they are on each daily expedition.

Our captains hold 100-ton master captain licenses from the USCG.  Coastal Expeditions boats are custom-built vessels that receive yearly inspections from the U.S. Coast Guard.
