Lowcountry Environmental Education Program (LEAP) Summer Internship
Coastal Expeditions is a premier outfitter based in Charleston, SC, facilitating outdoor adventures in the South Carolina Lowcountry. We are seeking four high school interns to assist with our conservation and education effort in the Lowcountry! Interns will work closely with naturalists, biologists, environmental experts, and seasoned captains to gain a comprehensive understanding of environment-based careers.
Compensation and Details
-9 week-long internship
-Start week June 2nd, end week August 4th
–$15hr/week, 15 hours per week required (Monday-Wednesday morning schedule or Wednesday-Friday morning schedule availability preferred)
-Eligible for course credit
-Access to free kayaks and paddleboards at various Coastal Expeditions locations in the greater Charleston area
Required Duties (Included but not limited to):
-Shadow/assist naturalists and captains with a variety of tours
-Assist with The Outdoor School summer programming for Coastal Expeditions
-Work with Charleston Waterkeeper for Adopt-A-Stream citizen science water monitoring
-Assistance monitoring shorebird and seabird nesting sites
-Work with the Loggerhead Turtle Nest Protection Program through U.S. Fish and Wildlife
-Serve as a greeter/parking attendant for Bulls Island Ferry in Cape Romain NWR
-Complete various projects as assigned at Coastal Expeditions Headquarters on Shem Creek
Qualifications:
-Currently enrolled in high school
-Positive and kind personality
-Adaptable and willing to work in a variety of environments and with various age levels
-Hard worker and able to assist with physically demanding work outdoors in the South Carolina summer (heavy lifting is required)
-Have transportation to and from Coastal Expeditions locations around the greater Charleston area
