Coastal Expeditions Launches Exciting New Kids Camps and After-School Programs in Beaufort, SC

Beaufort, SC — April 3, 2025 — Coastal Expeditions is thrilled to announce the expansion of its renowned outdoor education programs to the Beaufort area, offering a variety of engaging camps and after-school activities designed to immerse children in the natural beauty of the Lowcountry. With over 30 years of experience in environmental education, Coastal Expeditions is committed to fostering a love for the outdoors in young adventurers.
Camps and after school programs are offered from outposts at St. Helena, Hunting Island State Park and the Downtown Beaufort Marina.
Coastal Explorers Camp
Designed for children aged 5-8, this camp introduces young explorers to the wonders of St. Helena Island. Participants will engage in activities that build outdoor skills and confidence on the water. The camp operates from the St. Helena Island basecamp, providing an ideal setting for discovery and adventure.
Young Naturalist Camp
Targeted at ages 8 to 11, the Young Naturalist Camp offers a deeper dive into the ecosystems of St. Helena Island. Campers will develop a greater understanding of the environment through hands-on experiences and guided exploration.
Hunting Island Nature Camp
In tandem with Hunting Island State Park, Coastal Expeditions is offering a camp that departs from their Nature Center. Sign ups are by the day, giving families flexibility whether they are locals or visiting the area. Each camp day combines a guided maritime forest and beach walk with a boat ecotour for ages 5 to 11.
After School Ocean Explorers
Coastal Expeditions is excited to introduce the After School Ocean Explorers program for children aged 5-9. Held at the Downtown Beaufort Outpost on Bay Street at the City Marina, this program offers three afternoons of exploration in April or May. Activities include dolphin-watching, island exploring, crabbing, and more, all led by experienced Coastal Expeditions educators. Sessions are scheduled on Mondays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., with a fee of $120 for three outings.
“Our mission has always been to connect children with the outdoors, teaching them essential skills and fostering a lifelong appreciation for nature,” said Chris Crolley, owner of Coastal Expeditions. “Expanding our programs to the Beaufort area allows us to reach more young adventurers and provide them with unforgettable experiences in the Lowcountry.”
Safety is a top priority at Coastal Expeditions. All programs are led by a team of environmental educators with certifications in sea kayaking, lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR. Coastal Expeditions captains hold master captain licenses from the US Coast Guard, and the boats used are custom-built vessels with USCG Certificates of Inspection (COIs).Campers are required to wear personal flotation devices (PFDs) whenever near the water, including on boats and docks.
