Overview
You haven’t really seen Charleston until you’ve seen it by water. And we think that there isn’t a better way than by sea kayak on a Charleston Kayak Safari.
Shem Creek meanders through the saltmarsh and into Charleston Harbor, making it the perfect spot to see iconic Lowcountry wildlife like bottlenose dolphins and Eastern brown pelicans. Along the oyster-lined banks, egrets and herons hunt for crabs and shrimp while osprey fly overhead. In the summer months, manatees and sea turtles return to the creek and will sometimes pop to the surface as we paddle by. We’ve led tours on Shem Creek for 30 years and we’re still amazed at the amount of wildlife that congregates here.
The kayak guides at Coastal Expeditions are all experienced naturalists with a knack for storytelling. As they lead you down the creek past shrimp boats, they’ll share tales of Charleston’s rich history- all while making sure that you never miss a wildlife moment.
Why We Love It
If you don’t have a lot of time, this is a great way to see Shem Creek and get the chance to have a dolphin breach alongside your boat. This is the most popular kayak tour at our Shem Creek outpost.
Also great for families with young kids!
