BEACH DROP FOR SEA TURTLES
Your ticket supports the Sea Turtle Nest Protection Program in Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge
Overview
Boat Ecotour + Beach Drop
July 20, 2025
Join us on a special beach drop to the south end of Bulls Island to explore a wild beach where Loggerhead sea turtles nest. On the boat ride to the island, Coastal Expeditions naturalists will share information about Cape Romain NWR and some of the endangered & threatened species it protects.
On the island, you’ll get a glimpse into the program as Capt. Chris leads an interpretive walk down the shoreline. It’s an opportunity to understand the responsibilities of the turtle volunteers who work from dusk to dawn to protect this endangered species.
This fundraiser is a fun and family-friendly event on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Beach Drop | Seasonal

Nests are Hatching in Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge!
t’s hatching season in Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge—and it’s a magical time to witness conservation in action.
With over 1,200 loggerhead sea turtle nests laid on the remote barrier islands this year, the beaches are now beginning to come alive with tiny hatchlings making their way to the sea. As of July 7, the first nests have begun to hatch!
When you join a Beach Drop for Sea Turtles, you’re not just visiting a stunning, protected coastline—you’re supporting the work of field biologists and interns like Kai Hudson, who are on the ground every day helping protect these threatened species.
Come walk the beach, learn from our naturalist guides, and be part of the story that’s unfolding in one of the most important sea turtle nesting areas on the East Coast.
(Sea turtles are handled under the direction of wildlife technicians with permits from SCDNR and USFWS. If you see a loggerhead sea turtle or hatchlings on a beach, please do not handle them)
