Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge is hosting a Sea Turtle Volunteer Meeting on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the Sewee Visitor & Environmental Education Center in Awendaw, SC—and you’re invited. Whether you live nearby or you’re looking for a way to get more involved in coastal conservation, we encourage you to attend. Join Coastal Expeditions on a special beach drop to the north end of Bulls Island within Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge. Within this 66,000 acre refuge, about 3,000 loggerhead sea turtle nests are laid each summer. It takes a team of wildlife technicians and volunteers working daily from dawn to dusk to protect these nests from big tides and predation. Tickets from this beach drop will go towards funding this program for the 2025 nesting season. It's a fun way to learn about the program and explore one of Charleston's wild beaches. Family-friendly 2 departure times Please dress for the weather and wear a hat. You will have time to explore on your own after learning about the program through a beach demonstration! 100% of tickets will benefit the work of the Coastal Expedition Foundation, paying for the seasonal salaries of the technicians, coordinators and interns who lead this program (community)
