CUNA Mutual Group Contributes to the Coastal Expeditions Foundation Mission of Coastal Conservation

CUNA employees worked on habitat restoration on a team building project.
We recently had the opportunity to take out an incredible crowd from CUNA Mutual Group’s Senior Advisor Leadership Team (SALT). When SALT reached out to the Coastal Expeditions Foundation looking for a service project that would make a positive impact during their visit to Charleston, Capt. Chris Crolley designed a customized team building service project.
We had a great day on the water learning about and protecting local habitats and bird populations. Coastal Expeditions guides led the group in replanting Spartina (Sporobolis) grass on a deficient site while educators from the CE Foundation talked about the critical need for conservation in coastal areas.
Charleston has experienced a significant decline in bird nesting populations due to habitat loss caused by ‘coastal squeeze’ from development. This work helps to deter erosion and thus ensure protection for this vital bird habitat. These conservation efforts, center to the foundation, are key to not only keeping Charleston a safe haven for bird populations but the beautiful, nature paradise that we live and play by.

Thanks to CM Annuities and the Senior Advisor Leadership Team from CUNA Mutual Group for visiting the Lowcountry and leaving a lasting impact. In addition to their environmental service project, they also generously gifted the Coastal Expeditions Foundation with a $20,000 donation.
Donations such as these are crucial for us to continue our impactful work in the Lowcountry. With these funds we can continue to foster future environmental stewards in Title 1 schools, protect habitats and wildlife like loggerhead sea turtles and coastal birds and positively impact veterans through our Coastal Warriors veterans kayak and resilience training.
