Shem Creek Kayak Rentals
In a place where shrimp boats still ply the waters and the tide breathes life into the marsh, there’s a waterway that tells the story of the Lowcountry—if you’re willing to slow down and listen.
Shem Creek is narrow and winding. It’s edged in spartina grass, shadowed by live oaks, and inhabited by herons, dolphins, and the occasional manatee that drifts in with the warm water. You can spend a lifetime in Charleston and still be surprised by how this place unfolds when seen from a kayak.

It’s not just a rental. It’s an invitation.
When you launch a kayak from our Shem Creek outpost, we’re not just sending you out with gear. We’re inviting you into a saltwater world shaped by tides, weather, and wild things. You’ll paddle past old docks where pelicans gather, past working boats that still bring in shrimp and stories. If you’re lucky, a dolphin will break the surface nearby—reminding you that this isn’t a theme park. It’s a living estuary.

We believe that the best way to understand a place is to immerse yourself in it— with your eyes wide open. Renting a kayak here isn’t about checking a box. It’s about learning the rhythm of the tides, feeling the wind shift, and beginning to recognize the silhouettes of local seabirds against the sky. You’ll never look at Charleston the same way.
Plan your paddle
Wear something that can get wet. Bring water, sunscreen, and a sense of curiosity. We’ll take care of the rest. (We also have an awesome retail shop with local goods, Coastal Expeditions swag and cold drinks!)
Walk-ups welcome.
Walk-ups are always welcome at our Mount Pleasant outpost. If the weather’s right and there’s a kayak available, we’ll get you on the water. Reservations are recommended, but spontaneity has its place here too.
You can also call or text on your way over and we’ll start getting your kayaks ready! 843-884-7684
