SEA KAYAKING FIELD TRIP
ST. HELENA ISLAND
Overview
Sea kayaking
Grades 6–12 & college/continuing education
Teamwork, tides, and a front-row seat to the Lowcountry.
This kayak-based field trip gets middle and high school students off campus and into the salt marsh, where every paddle stroke leads to new discoveries. Along the way, students might spot bottlenose dolphins, pelicans, oysters, and the towering live oaks that anchor this rich ecosystem found in Ward’s Creek adjacent to our campus.
More than just a paddle, this trip blends natural and cultural history with hands-on science and leadership development. Guides keep students engaged throughout, weaving in activities that align with South Carolina academic standards—all while encouraging teamwork, communication, and a deeper connection to the natural world.
Why We Love It
There’s something special about learning from a kayak.
This trip gives students a chance to slow down, tune in, and experience the salt marsh from water level. It’s immersive, empowering, and a little bit muddy—in the best way. We love how it builds confidence and connection, turning quiet creeks into unforgettable classrooms.
