How Does Paddling to an Island to Find Shark Teeth Sound?
Special expedition with the South Carolina Aquarium

We’ve created a special kayak tour with our conservation partner, South Carolina Aquarium, to help them kick off their Shark Week!
Leaving from the Paradise Island Landing in Awendaw, we’ll kayak to Cat Island, using the tide to help us on this 3.5 mile paddle. Once we reach the beach, we’ll search for shark teeth and fossils on this known hotspot. Throughout the day, expert guides will teach you the tricks of fossil hunting, how to identify your finds and information about our local shark species. After a satisfying exploration of the island, we’ll paddle back to the landing, enjoying the beauty of this quintessential Lowcountry river along the way. Expect more than just a prehistoric experience — dolphins, bald eagles, ospreys, herons, pelicans and more are likely to make an appearance on this family-friendly day. Pack a lunch and your sense of adventure on this special offering with the South Carolina Aquarium.
Single or tandem kayaks available.
When: Sunday, July 22 • 8 a.m.- 2 p.m.
