SHEM CREEK
Kayak Tours

Located just a few miles from downtown Charleston on the charming shrimping creek that has become the symbol of Mount Pleasant, our flagship campus offers everything you need for a great day on the water.  It's been our home since 1992, when our founder started Coastal Expeditions and brought sea kayaking to the Lowountry.

We are headquartered here because Shem Creek is the perfect introduction to the Lowcountry.  Our tours, led by professional guides, share their passion about local history, wildlife and ecology as you take in the views of the Ravenel bridge, Fort Sumter, a shrimping village and downtown Charleston.  Dolphins, manatees and a myriad of birds (including pelicans, egrets, herons and ospeys) are frequently seen on Shem Creek tours.  No experience needed, we tailor each outing to your group.

If you have questions, please call us at (843)884-7684.  We're available to help you pick the right tour, schedule a time that works for your group or provide information about what to expect!

Coastal Expeditions Kayak Guides

Coastal South Carolina Map   This was our first trip to Charleston. We only had four days to spend, so we researched fun things to do in and around the city. We wanted to kayak and looked for an outfitter that would do more than just put us on the water. The Coastal Expeditions website was informative and offered a variety of activities. We took a two-hour kayak tour on Shem Creek. Aaron was our guide. He was knowledgable of the area and enthusiastic for its preservation. We learned a lot and had fun in the process. As soon as we were done, we booked a trip to Bulls Island for the next day. (Read more here at TripAdvisor.)
