CANOE TOUR

Francis Marion Wonderland

If you are looking for a truly special canoeing experience, come with us to the Echaw.  From the moment you settle into your hybrid canoe*, you'll be in an ancient forested wonderland of tupelos and towering blad cypresses.  And as a soundtrack, you'll be surrounded by the sounds of prothonotary warblers, northern parulas and cardinals.  You won't find an area of the Lowcountry that is more raw, wild and exotic.

As you paddle between cypress knees that are protruding from the inky water, we'll show you how to spot the vivid yellow prothonotary warblers that call this ecosystem home in spring and summer.  And looking to the sky down the creeks open corridor, we'll search for Mississippi and swallow-tailed kites.

Whenever we venture down Echaw Creek, we can't get over how prehistoric the landscape feels.  This is a great kayak tour for anyone looking for something out of the ordinary.

*The hybrid canoes have seats that on the decking of the hull, more like a kayak.  This positioning allows us to use kayak paddles for better maneuverability.  The traditional canoe shape of the boat gives you room for gear and to move around comfortably, making this the best of both worlds.  If you've hesitated to go on a trip with us become of the closed cockpits of expedition sea kayaks, this is a great opportunity to join us!
