Amazing Experience

This was our third kayak trip in the Charleston area and the second time we have used Coastal Expeditions. I doubt we will ever use any other company now! Our trip on June 25, 2015 was from their Folly Beach outpost. We were scheduled for the 9am daily creek tour and the weather was calling for a good chance of thunderstorms. When we got there, our guide told us that since the weather was looking iffy, we would not be charged for our trip until we returned and if the weather forced us in early, we would not have to pay for the full three hours. However, we got super lucky and the rain held off the entire time. Our guide was wonderful, with a marine science degree, as well as experience teaching the subject at the college level. Rather than lecture us though, he allowed us to paddle along the creek, pointing out various birds and marine life as we encountered them. His laid back approach made the trip much more fun because you could really get into a rhythm kayaking, instead of being very stop and go like some tours we've done. The best part of the tour occurred about halfway through. It was low tide, which is perfect for dolphin feeding, and although there is never a guarantee that you will see dolphins, we came across a pod of four and were able to follow them as they enjoyed a "brunch buffet" along the creek banks. When the water got shallow and they began to feel closed in by our kayaks, they came up and eyeballed us and then dove under our kayaks and continued back out the way they had come. We followed them almost all the way back to our dock. It was an almost surreal experience, just listening to them breathe as they would surface each time. Our guide was wonderful, giving us lots of information about the dolphins' behavior and what powerful animals they really are. Before we knew it, the three hours were up and we were back at the dock, climbing out of our kayaks. I highly recommend Coastal Expeditions to anyone interested in a kayak tour. (We have also used them from their Isle of Palms outpost and our guide there was also excellent!)

First Time Kayaking and No Nerves No Worries

Brought my nephew along for the Salt Water tour and got lucky the dolphin were active and the water was calm. The instructors were great and instilled great confidence. The time on the water seemed longer than 2 hours and that was great. I would highly recommend this tour and heavy sunscreen. The cost was les than an amusement park ticket and more rewarding. We are thinking about renting kayaks for a day now, it was so easy.

First Time Kayaking

We visited the Folly Beach location and had Olivia and Henry as our tour guides. They were very friendly and patient and shared a wealth of knowledge on local history and the local ecosystem. Well worth the price.

Great Way to Enjoy the Natural Environment Off the Coast of Charleston, SC

We thoroughly enjoyed our kayak outing with our guide, Caroline. The trip is through the waterways along the coast of Charleston, SC. Caroline is very knowledgeable about the area and she was very happy to answer all of our questions. She also did a great job of supporting the various skill levels of all the kayakers in our group (especially us 1st timers!). The most incredible part was seeing dolphins (yes, dolphins) up close!

Great Kayak Trip

We did the sunset kayak trip. We started with a party of 6 but after an approaching storm scared my youngest, two of us left. They were kind enough to refund our two fees since we felt unsafe. The rest of my family went on and had an amazing time. The sunset was gorgeous and the guides were great. We will definitely use them again.

Went on a Folly Beach low tide kayak trip looking for dolphins and had a great time! Saw tons of dolphins in the Folly estuary, some mothers with calves and close enough for eye contact. Our guide Henry was very knowledgeable and gelpful and the trip was great fun! Would absolutely recommend for an outdoors Charleston experience.

Kayak Tour Over the Saltwater Marsh

Chris took us out on a 3 hour kayak tour of the saltwater estuaries. He gave us a lesson to begin with how to control the kayak , as we were complete beginners at the sport - this was a very useful introduction which made our time in the water enjoyable and it helped us avoid falling out of the kayak! Chris was such a knowledgeable guy - he had so many interesting facts about the ecosystem & wildlife. And also some funny / curious stories about Charleston history and surrounding areas . He really made trip memorable & we enjoyed speaking with him.

Folly 3-Hour Kayak Tour

We had a wonderful time kayaking and bird watching with our excellent guide Josh Driscoll. He is extremely knowledgeable about the environment and shared this knowledge freely. He pointed out the different birds and their calls and behaviors. As an extra treat Josh picked oysters and shucked them for us to eat as we were paddling!

Best Day of Our Trip!

Coastal Expeditions was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. We needed to change the date of our kayak reservation and they were accommodating and easy to contact. We took the 3 hour kayak in Folly Creek and had a perfect experience! Our guide, Henry, was SO wonderful! He was friendly, gave great instruction on the basics of kayaking and had a passion for teaching people about the estuary. We saw blue heron, turtles, red fish dancing in the water, and a gorgeous dolphin playing right in front of our group! I was afraid my expectations were too high for this trip, but it was really the highlight of our vacation. We would happily take a trip with Henry any day!

Kayak to Morris Island- Must do!

Last year on Spring Break we stopped in at the Coastal Expeditions office on the bridge to folly beach and enjoyed an amazing 3 hour kayak tour of the Folly Creek area. The guide was great at getting us going as first time kayaks with kids and it was a great trip so this year we returned for more. This year the kids (10 and 15) were up for more so we did the 6 hour Morris Island Lighthouse tour. The conditions were excellent our guide was awesome, the views were spectacular. We ate lunch on the beach in front of the light, on several spots we had dolphins swimming around our kayaks. Now the big decision is which tour to do when we come back next year!

Great Staff and Great Time

The younger generation of our family persuaded us to try sea kayaking for the first time. Not being big outdoors people, my husband and I were not sure what to expect, but as soon as we arrived at the Coastal Expeditions office, we were immediately put at ease by the very friendly and helpful staff there.
Chris was our guide, as well as our paddling instructor, safety lecturer, and (along with the lovely Olivia) all-around helper in getting us situated into our vessels.
We paddled inside some estuaries ("Sea-kayaking" is a bit of a misnomer, since we weren't out on the open water, which is probably for the best considering our lack of experience!) and Chris was a fantastic guide! He seemed to know everything about the ecosystem and its sea life, birds, history - you name it, and Chris knew it - so we actually learned some things about the areas we were enjoying while on the water. He was also well-prepared, with a water pump for one of the kayaks that got swamps, and first aid skills for someone who cut his finger.
This company offers a variety of coastal experiences, and based on our experience, I would highly recommend them! Thanks for a super afternoon, folks!

Spectacular Sunset Kayak!

My 16 year old son and I joined tour guide Henry for a spectacular sunset kayak. Henry was extremely knowledgeable about the local wildlife. In addition to the pelican who put on a diving show for us we met up with a mother dolphin and her 2 babies on the way in. A beautiful sunset made even better with a dolphin visit. I'd highly recommend this tour to all families. It's an easy going pace with excellent guides and amazing scenery at sunset. Cheers!

First Time Kayaking Fun!

We had an excellent time on our kayaking tour. There were six of us -- 4 adults, one 12 year old, one 8 year old. We all double up. It was our first time kayaking.
Our guide was Wick and he was Amazing! SO friendly and professional and really, really knowledgable! We saw SO much wildlife! It was really a fantastic trip.
The paddling was a lot of work, but it was worth it!
I highly recommend this outfitter because Everyone we interacted with was super. It's a great location - easy on/easy off, from the car as well as with the kayaks themselves!
